@conniptions1533 Gallup was the same company who polled Crimeans and found the overwhelming majority of them considered Russia's referendum legitimate and fair, so don't you dare accuse them of having a pro-American bias.

Stop this nihilism. Grouping all invasions together is like grouping all rebellions/revolutions together. No one does that. Some are good, some are bad.

If the US's goal was to destabilize Iraq, weren't the insurgents playing into our hands? Because peace came to Iraq as soon as Muqtada Al-Sadr declared a cease fire and the "nationalist insurgents" switched sides and started fighting for the US during the Anbar Awakening.

Even you don't know what you mean by the word "imperialism." The US gave Iraqis an independent democracy. If that's imperialism you might as well say it was imperialism when France and Spain intervenned in the American Revolution to ensure our victory against the red coats. About 88% of civilians in Iraq died at the hands of "insurgents, militia, and terrorists" according to Iraq Body Count's John Sloboda, the people we were there to kill and capture. But the fact they knew people like you would blame their crimes on their American enemies gave them a perverse incentive to spill as much blood as possible. How else do you explain things like the July Soccer Bombings, which seemed to target no particular sect and were just to "get attention"?

Here's how things really went down: 1)The US invaded, the overwhelming majority of Iraqis cheered at his downfall (an April 2004 poll showed they believed it was worth it by a margin of about 2 to 1, I'm sure if they poll was taken earlier it would have been even higher) 2)Around 2006, sectarian violence kicked into high gear. Iraqis started mass murdering each other. 3)Instead of turning their guns on the sectarian murderers, Iraqis blamed America like how Batman was blamed for Joker's murders in "The Dark Knight". They figured if America would just go away, so would the terrorists. 4)After about two years of getting slaughtered by their own people, they finally admitted "okay, fine, it's not America killing us, it's Al Qaeda" and many insurgents switched sides to the US in what was called The Anbar Awakening. Peace finally came to Iraq after this. 5) Despite the lessons they learned, they continue to blame America for everything that happen and pretend they never wanted to be liberated.

The vast majority of innocents in Iraq were killed by "Freedom Fighters" you were rooting for, and they were no doubt largely motivated by the fact they knew you'd blame their American enemies for their crimes, turning every atrocity into a propaganda victory. That's a simple, historical fact. It sincerely makes me despair when even a self-professed historian doesn't know these facts.

"Sovereign" is a meaningless buzzword. What made Saddam Hussein's government over Iraq "sovereign"? Mite makes right? An April 2004 Gallup polls showed most Iraqis thought the war was "worth it" for overthrowing Saddam. They only changed their tune a couple years later when they mass murdered each other in sectarian violence and then blamed Americans. Bush's only crime was not knowing what was best for Iraq better than the Iraqis.
