It’s a little something economists call ‘perverse incentive’. Every dead Iraqi, including those killed by the people we were there to kill and capture, was blamed on America. This turned every death in Iraq into a propaganda victory for the insurgents and they damn well knew this. They knew by waging as much senseless violence against the Iraqi people as possible they could turn the world and the Iraqis against America and it worked. If people had blamed theterrorists for their own atrocities things would have turned out very, very differently.

No doubt they were hugely motivated by the fact they knew people like you would blame their atrocities on their American enemies. How else do you explain such bizarre events as the July Soccer Bombings which seemed to target no particular group and were just to get attention?
