@VintageBalderdash Yes. A taser is supposed to incapacitate you, he could have stolen the officer's gun after he was stunned. I'd like to see how cerebral you'd be in this situation.

@endlessrskies1 What other option do they have? Are you saying you should be able to fire incapacitating weapons at the police with impunity? He could have taken the officer's gun while he was on the ground, stunned from the taser shock. Maybe it wasn't justified, but I'd like to see how cerebral you'd be in this situation.

@chavvy9074 Jesus Christ this comment made my head hurt.

@pbl5993 The difference is Floyd was already "defeated" and they had nine minutes to think about what they were doing.

@salsadancer00 The people who killed Floyd and Garner had minutes to think about their decisions. Let's see how cerebral you become when someone turns around and fires an incapacitating weapon at you.

@runawayuniverse He turned around and fired a weapon at them, a weapon that was meant to incapacitate. He could have stolen the officer's gun while he was on the ground.

@BenReillySpydr1962 What would the world look like if you could resist arrest by any means, as long as it was "non-lethal"? He didn't deserve to die, but I'd like to see how cerebral you'd be when a maniac turns around and fires a weapon that could incapacitate you at you. John Adams became a national hero by getting British soldiers acquitted for the Boston Massacre.

@EridianX The purpose of a taser is to incapacitate. I'd like to see what you'd do if a violent criminal tried to incapacitate you, especially when you were armed with a weapon they could steal.

Pretty sure this will be South Africa, where it's illegal to shoot a criminal unless he shoots first (yes, that's actually a law).

Yes.

@sapphireashes7824 It might not have been justified, but how cerebral would you be in that situation?

It's not "the death penalty", the cops panicked and acted in self-defense, like the British soldiers in the Boston Massacre that Adams defended. What do you think the world would look like if you could resist arrest with anything short of "lethal force"? Ideally they should have shot him in the legs but if you've ever fired a gun you'd know how insanely hard it is to accurately hit a stationary target, let along a moving one.

What would the world look like if criminals could do this sort of thing with immunity?

I don't think this was justified, but I don't think it was criminal either. It's like the British soldiers shooting people at the Boston Massacre. John Adams, our Founding Father, got them acquitted.
1
It was not a death sentence, it was a spur of the moment decision. He didn't have 9 minutes to think it through like George Floyd. Samuel Adams became a national hero for getting British soldiers who shot into a crowd of protestors who threw SNOWBALLS at them off the hook.
1
@Cuddlydeath You sound like someone who's never fired a gun. You wouldn't believe how easy it is to even hit a stationary target from that distance with a hand gun.

John Adams became a national hero for getting British soldiers who fired into the crowd at the Boston Massacre acquitted.

Have you ever fired a gun? It is very hard to hit a stationary target, let alone a moving one.

@TymerTopCat A TOY!? Are you f***ing kidding me!? The purpose of a taser is to incapacitate! Are you saying police officers should just shut up and take it if a violent criminal wants to incapacitate them!? He could have easily stolen the cop's gun and shot killed him! In retrospect, I think shooting this dude was wrong, but Christ alive, how cerebral would you be in this situation?
1
@mockingintercessor What the hell do you think the world would look like if criminals could use weapons like tasers on police with impunity!? The point of non-lethal weapons is to incapacitate. He could easily have stolen his gun while he was on the ground stunned. In retrospect, he probably should not have shot him, but how cerebral would you be in that situation?
