  1. It just makes me so angry when people use the "power imbalance" argument. Parents can barely control their 15 year old daughters, yet I'm supposed to believe a 33 year old has Jedi mind control powers over a 21 year old just by virtue of being older.

If a 55 year old and 20 year old commit a crime, in what world could you possibly imagine the 20 year olds lawyer making the defense "Well the 55 year old was older and wiser than him, so obviously he used his mind control powers to force him to rob that bank." There is no other context where we pretend older people have this kind of power over younger people. It's simply an excuse to vilify relationships for being icky and creepy.

When two people commit a crime, do we try the younger partner differently based on the age of his accomplice? No. He's either old enough to be considered an adult responsible for his own decisions, or he's not.

  13. There is no such thing as a "predatory" age gap. First off, teenagers are arrogant, hard-headed, stubborn, and quick to get aggressive. No guy is going to go for a teenage girl because he wants a meek little puppet to tug around. Second, if your daughter was airhead and brought home the class valedictorian home for dinner, you wouldn't say "Oh noes! He's smarter than her! He'll be able to manipulate her! Predator!" All these non-sense buzzwords, "predatory", "power imbalance", etc. are just excused to vilify people for being icky and creepy.

Society worked a lot better when we had teenage girls getting impregnated by older men (1950s) then when we had teenagers getting impregnated by their own (1970s). You don't want to be judged yet you impose these arbitrary rules.

  22. Yes, it's called evolution. Women have limited fertility life, have to survive child birth (easier when they are young), and the health of the offspring is much more dependent on the life of the mother.

  26. People get abused by people their own age all the time. And infact studies show younger people are more likely to be abusive. A man 17 - 20 is twice as likely to hit his partner as one 25 - 28.
