I remember when people said a commercial with pandas was racist because they spoke with Chinese accents, and being forced to read an article for my sociology said that the media was a racist for portraying Asians as having "speech impediments" (ie, accents that cause them to mispronounce some words, the same way a German accent would cause you to pronounce a "th" as a "z").

@asmith587 Still, doesn't this just further entrench the idea their accent is something to be ashamed of, by treating it so different from anyone else's?

@liquidsnakex I think there's something particular about Asian accents. I don't think Jamaican accents would offend most people.

That ruined the skit for me. There's a real double standard here and that detracts from the point. I remember making a "Cheesy Accent Generator" to show off my RegEx skills and I had German, French, Australia, but I was seriously afraid to put Chinese. I also remember when a commercial with cartoon pandas was called racist just because they had Chinese accents, nothing more.

@Menzobarrenza The same article said the term "Yellow bellied" and "dark" (as in 'wow, that novel just got really dark') are racist too. I think the article was titled "Racism in the English Language". You can look it up.

I feel like "do the eyes" ruined the skit, because it downplayed the point it was/could have been trying to make. I remember to demonstrate my programming skills in RegEx, I made a Cheesy Accent Generator, that would take a words someone wrote and then "translate" them into a certain accent. IE if you picked "German" and typed "We are going there now" it would put out "Ve are going zhere now". I had French, German, Australian, but I was seriously nervous about putting Chinese. Even writing this I squirm on the inside a little bit. But if I decided letting the SJWs cow us into fearful submission is how we got into this mess in the first place, so I kept it. It wasn't one of my main projects anyone so employers will probably never even look at it, but still.

I think that kind of ruined the skit. This should have been exposing the double standard where its okay to admit everyone has accents except Asians.
