I saw a few European news reports on the resurgence of ISIS activity in Kurdish/SDF held territories in Syria. If you interpret ISIS as an ideology or movement (rather than an organization or territory), it would mean that it's extremely difficult to kill. Western media have often reported that ISIS was "defeated" because they lost their territorial holdings. Most of the fighters and activists may be in prison or hiding in Idlib. It seems their core supporters are living among the general Sunni population. The scary thing is some of them are masking themselves as refugees in other countries.

Funded and armed by them to fight Assad.

FYI, Turkey did deploy hundreds of troops to Afghanistan as part of NATO. Even after ISAF ended, Turkey was one of the last countries that stayed in Afghanistan until Taliban took control. If I recall correctly, In NATO Turkish forces are the second largest in size after the United States because of their mandatory military service. I suspect Turkey is kept in NATO because it controls access to the Black Sea.
