If invading and occupying Kiev (and overthrowing Ukrainian government) was the primary mission, wouldn't you be sending most of your forces to attack Ukraine from North (via Belarus) and Northeast? While we were all hearing about the attacks and horrors near Kiev, it appears now that the bulk of Russian forces were positioned and maneuvering in Southeast region.
