  1. ​ @Khanazawa It's funny how history works. If you were in Tochigi, Gunma or northern Saitama, you may have noticed the old KOFUN or mega-tombs from 1,500-2,000 years ago. Northern Kanto region used to be center of political, economic, religious, and cultural power for the Kanto plain. Now it's recognized as a country-side with lots of nature and vacation destinations as the economic/population center has shifted to southern Kanto for at least the past 400 years or so. It's the same with the old capital of Nara, known as Senen-no-inaka or Inaka for over 1,000 years since the political capital moved to Kyoto in late 8th century.
