  1. During and immediately after the Soviet Union, we called the country name of Georgia with a Russified pronunciation. It was pronounced with a hard G and not a J-sound. So I can see why the name didn't register with your teacher. The Georgian government spent many years around the world trying to be recognized/called by its rightful Georgian pronunciation.
