  1. It's a special case in Japan too. I don't think it makes sense in other cities. The traffic between Tokyo, Nagoya, and Okasa/Kansai region is so large, both the Shinkansen and planes make most of their money in these routes. The Chuo Shinkansen can reach Tokyo-Osaka in 1 hour, so there will definitely be a lot of business and tourist demand. Also, the Tokaido-Shinkansen was completed in 1964. JR-Tokai will have to do a massive overhaul once the Chuo-Shinkansen is complete.
