  5. Russia has always been "rotten" and stood on a delicate power-balance. It's naive to assume that a "free and democratic" Russia can remain as one entity. Internal socio-economic and regional disparities are so huge, Russia needs to split into multiple countries for that to happen. No single person or regime can manage Russia without an iron fist. Without a strong and powerful regime, Russia can easily disintegrate, which is not a bad thing for the quality of life of ordinary Russian citizens in the long-run. But for the sake of nuclear safety, we need Russia to be united and stable.

We have experience with mass influx of refugees and migrants from the Korean War, as well as Indochina to a lesser extent. We have had migrants from China, Vietnam, and Brazil too. In recent years, we see more Kurdish asylum seekers. Some refugees and migrants were able to adjust, integrate, and even thrive. But it's never easy to integrate into a country with vastly different language, customs and culture. There are high hurdles in order to be trusted as a member of society.

  13. ​ @kaysmith8992  Regarding Indonesians and Filipinos, from a Japanese perspective, there are no identifiable ethnic or cultural similarities. Everything from language, culture, and religion is different. For foreign nationals who wish to live in Japan, the most useful thing would be technical skills, language skills, and education (i.e. degree). It will be easiest to apply for a job in Japan and get a work visa sponsored. Foreign nationals who already studied Japanese in their respective countries (and international students who graduated from Japanese universities/grad programs) would have the easiest time to get work visas in Japan. If you wish to live/work in Japan, I would highly recommend studying in Japan, since you won't survive without basic-level of language/cultural knowledge. There are also "Working Holiday Visas" for citizens of two dozen countries.

  16. @@ironthreads7 Russian soldiers are already stationed in Belarus. However, Russia does need an independent Belarus (and Ukraine) to be a buffer-zone between Russia and NATO. That's the entire reason for the war, and is why Putin tried to overthrow the current Ukrainian regime (who has a strong preference of joining both EU and NATO).

  17. So the terrorists were running towards Russian-occupied Ukraine? That makes so much sense. The question you should be asking is why IS-K so determined to attack random Russian civilians. Many neighbors are not fans of Russia, but why would Tajiks be so disgusted with Russians. I thought it was some thing about Russian activities in Syria or Tajikistan or Afghanistan. This is execution style which implies they want the world to know why ordinary Russian civilians are being targeted.

  21. It looks like a massive waste of talent, time, energy, and resources. In hindsight, the US invasion only served to destabilize both Iraq and Syria. And Jordan, Turkey, and Lebanon massively suffered from a refugee crisis. Iran expanded its influence in Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon, thanks to the Americans overthrowing a secular regime in Iraq that hated Jihadists as well as Theocratic Iranians. Meanwhile, Muslim extremism uses the Iraq invasion and US behavior for recruitment.

We learn that Jesus was born in Palestine to a Jewish family. His immediate family and circle were mostly ethnic Jews. Thinking that Palestinians came from elsewhere may not be historically accurate. They became Arabs, and became Muslims from something else.

What the military can or cannot do, what type of equipment or tactics can or cannot be used also follows the guidelines by political authority. As such it's not fair to blame it all on military leadership. Starting the Iraq war while Afghan war wasn't finished was the biggest mistake, in my view.

  38. Belarus would collapse without Russian economic assistance. Much like Ukraine, Belarus had to borrow money from Russia in order to purchase Russian natural gas. If Belarus ever pursued a pro-EU/NATO stance, Belarus will be cut off and end up like Moldova at best. At worst, they'll be invaded and annexed. Making excuses and stalling is the only thing they can do.

Unlike the refugees and migrants from Indochina, those from Middle-East and North Africa struggle to integrate. I don't know if it's because of their culture, religion, genetics, or upbringing. We should've known when people from Europe were joining ISIS.

All the neighboring countries instinctively know that without the military regime in Myanmar, the country will implode and disintegrate into a dozen countries, causing millions of refugees in all directions. Syria or Yemen is not want any neighbor wants for Myanmar. And UN doesn't have its own wish or military. Member-states decide if they desire to send their military forces in UN operations. I highly doubt any country would wish to give involved in counter-insurgency campaigns against ethnic minorities who want independence. Providing security and stability for Myanmar, eventually will lead to such action.
