  1. It looks like a massive waste of talent, time, energy, and resources. In hindsight, the US invasion only served to destabilize both Iraq and Syria. And Jordan, Turkey, and Lebanon massively suffered from a refugee crisis. Iran expanded its influence in Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon, thanks to the Americans overthrowing a secular regime in Iraq that hated Jihadists as well as Theocratic Iranians. Meanwhile, Muslim extremism uses the Iraq invasion and US behavior for recruitment.
