Did you not learn about the Huns, Avars, Bulgars, Khazars...or the various nomadic East Eurasian Turkic clans that lived in the Eurasian steppe? The common tongue of the Eurasian steppe was Turkic/Tatar...even before the Mongol expansion in the 13th century. Or rather, Mongolic clans just ruled over traditional Turkic lands and eventually Turkified in later centuries. The main fighters of the Mongol Army in Central Asia and beyond was mostly Turkic clans. Only the rulers and generals were from Mongolic clans. Eventually many of the people in this region Slavicized with Russian expansion in the past few centuries. But it's well known that some in Russian aristocrats had Tatar ancestry, and some Turkic/Tatar words entered Russian vocabularly as they absorbed the indigenous people. FYI, "Cossack" is a Turkic/Tatar word.
