  1. The 1950 oil would be used in low compression side valve engines (like the mower). It's surprising to see so much blow-by. Those old engines used a gravity dirt trap. There was no inline paper element filter. They need a basic oil that does not keep dirt in suspension. Modern oils should not be used because there is no paper filter to catch the suspended dirt. These oils are actually worse for old engines than old spec oils..
