  1. Propane is usually gassified before going into the engine. We can now get liquid phase injection systems. They need injectors fitting to the inlet manifold but run with no performance loss and almost identical miles per gallon.

  2. Wikipedia says - Coleman fuel has an octane rating of 50 to 55 and a flammability similar to gasoline, it has none of the additives found in modern gasoline. Most burners will readily burn unleaded gasoline (or white gas). It's likely to knock pretty badly in anything but a lawn mower.
