  1. Ukraine has considerable oil and gas reserves under the eastern oblasts and Sea of Azov. Putin invaded to lock out any competition to Gasprom (he owns it). He blocks any Caspian pipelines to Kazakhstan for same reason.

  3. Putin propaganda claims the Russian speakers of Ukraine were oppressed. The viscous reality of his war will leave those very people feeling cursed. They will drop their native language for Ukrainian.
