  1. The immense shock of that explosion would have wrecked anything bolted to the ship structure. Machinery and aft magazines would be rendered useless. Not to mention the ship’s structure.

  3. Initiator charges set into the main charges should be safer. They won’t fire without a direct hit on the exact point the making charge effectively protects its initiator. A separate magazine carrying the volatile explosive has to be the most risky option.
