  1.  @alexanderlawson1649  A 1969 law case that exposed asbestos as a health risk forced a 1970 voluntary agreement in to ban the stuff. Blue Asbestos became a scapegoat but was was really just 3% of the total. Azzy was not fully stopped until the Health and Safety at Work Act of 1974. These supposedly obsolete planes were amazingly resilient and for a long time the only torpedo bombers that could actually operate from carrier decks heaving about in the North Atlantic. It does beg the question as to why Fleet Air Arm used Fairey Fulmar in preference to the Hawker Hurricane. Range maybe?

  4. I’m 63. My father was 21 in 1939. He survived the war due to over-active thyroid that had him chucked out on medical grounds. He died in 1976 due to industrial accident. His eldest sister was a nurse on Malta from 1937 to 1942. She was much the same age as my maternal grandmother.
