  1. Comets/meteorites scattered into dust by the atmosphere don’t really “hit” anything solid. The dust eventually gets washed down with rainwater.

  2. British carriers with their armoured decks showed how relatively little strength could effectively defeat Japanese bombs. The dent in the deck was filled with cement and all was good. HMS Eagle in the Mediterranean was set on fire by Luftwaffe Stuka dive bombers but only because they put two bombs down the open rear aircraft elevator. Had the lift been on the side the damage would have been reduced.

  3. The US Navy considered that wooden decks were less aggressive to aircraft landing. That was proven to be minimally useful and certainly not as beneficial as an armoured deck.
