Every catastrophe is a combination of factors. It sounds like any roll to stbd (left rudder) would be just another factor adding to the fatal shell strike doing the necessary damage. I think the Hood’s designers did a good job. The stats of that fatal shot are incalculably high.

With the refit of Hood needing so much time, is it likely she would have been converted into a carrier?

@Thurman321 It’s said the Coventry was sunk by an Exocet which failed to detonate. The solid rocket propellant was more than enough.

@Soundwave3591 The Bismarck hull was pretty much unsinkable. But her use as a weapons platform had been wiped out long before that. If Hood had not exploded but left the fight, how likely is it that Bismarck would have surrendered?
