  1. Germany had problems creating self sealing fuel tanks. When they did, there was about a year where engines were blowing up for no known reason. It was eventually discovered the self sealing liners were depleting the fuel octane value leading to engine knock and holed pistons.

  2. It’s interesting that Grumman dropped the 20mm cannon option. When first tried on Spitfires the recoil with one gun threw the plane off target. They eventually fitted two on each side.
