  1. The cathedral had to be programmed into the missile as a way point or a target. Russia has form when they hit a Polish farmhouse instead of an actual target on the same latitude. The cathedral and power plant are also on the same latitude. The simplest option is always the most likely Russet wants to destroy everything of value in Ukraine so the cathedral was set as the target.
