  1. The original semiconductor was the diode a one-way switch. The transistor is a switched diode. It’s an electronic relay - sort of. Texas Instruments put lots of diodes and transitions into one piece of silicon wafer. That’s the integrated circuit that today contains millions of transistors on one wafer.
