  4. Fiat use a single casting that carries the bearing shells. They save the costs of all those caps and get a stiffer engine lump into the bargain. Their cost cutting goof was fitting a weak cam chain that will fail after 100K miles.

  5. Straight cut gears arr very efficient but noisy. Epicyclic (sun & planet sets) always have at least three of the four planets teeth engaged at any moment. That means no noise no vibration and three times the torque capacity of any single gear in the set.
