  1. My Ford Galaxy TDI (minivan) was fab for towing but the normal upper 30’s per (U.K.) gallon would drop to low 20s when pulling a caravan (trailer home). Large or small much the same. Diesels are 40% efficient under load. Gasoline is 25% or worse. However. If I had my time again renting a motor home would be so much better and tow a (smaller) car behind.

  2. Bigger or smaller rim diameter makes no difference because tyre side wall height varies. Large rims get thin tyres small rims get fat tyres. Rolling diameter is the same. If you fit smaller diameter wheels your speedo will read fast and you pull better on hills but the energy demand (due to drag) is the same.

  3. The skinny tyres Tesla use on top spec cars are poor for aero (wide and square) and fragile over normal pot-holed roads. 17 inch with round shoulders and aero covers will ride far nicer use less energy and only marginally affect handling.
