  1. If you ever get any sort of fine or legal case against you in a foreign country make sure you get the paperwork CORRECTLY translated. Mistakes at that point will have horrible future ramifications. A friend had a road accident in Italy that was judged (unfairly) to be 50-50 responsibility. But the other driver died of natural causes within 28 days. When the citation was translated the lawyer put it down as manslaughter (death due to negligence). It absolutely was nothing of the sort but my friend failed to check what had been written on the translated script. You can imagine the endless aggravation this has caused.

  2. Moral of the story - NEVER - EVER - do anything official that’s not absolutely necessary. Obviously observe deadlines but doing it when not strictly necessary sets you up for a mess like this story. Bureaucracy operatives are chosen to press buttons until the end of time. 90% simply don’t give a s*t about the people they “serve”.
