  4. NASA is the one outfit that will never make progress. They pre-define what they want then ask cost plus contracts to build it. (a) they don’t know what they want and (b) the contractor has no incentive to complete the project. Result? current mega rocket project with Boeing.

  5. The Drake equation is far too optimistic. Earth gas just the right amount of magnetic core just the right amount of volcanoes just the right amount of clouds. Then our sun is actually a relatively rare star and Jupiter has not trolled ever inwards to hoover us up. Regardless of life elsewhere, we are incredibly lucky to be here.

  6. China’s naval aircraft are so underpowered they can barely take off from their carrier. If China can’t do the basic stuff it’s unlikely to deliver a stealth bomber that actually works.

  11. It’s a common misconception but rockets don’t push off anything. They use what amounts to the recoil effect. Throw lots of high speed gas out the back and the recoil pushes the rocket forwards.
