  1. NASA is the one outfit that will never make progress. They pre-define what they want then ask cost plus contracts to build it. (a) they don’t know what they want and (b) the contractor has no incentive to complete the project. Result? current mega rocket project with Boeing.

  2. It’s a common misconception but rockets don’t push off anything. They use what amounts to the recoil effect. Throw lots of high speed gas out the back and the recoil pushes the rocket forwards.
