We have the technology to make high temperature nuclear reactors that - (1) burn nuke waste. (2) burn it so completely there is almost no waste remaining. (3) intrinsically safe. The core is self regulating. It naturally matches output to demand. It cannot overheat. (4) No moving parts. Low cost to build and operate. (5) can operate at more than 600 centigrade. Thats more than enough for hydrogenation of CO2. That process would turn nuclear heat into hydrocarbons. (6) High steam temperatures (via external heat exchangers) allow more efficient use of the thermal heat for power generation. - smaller sites with minimal cooling systems. (6) Decay heat cannot overheat the reactor so meltdown cannot happen. (7) the core operates at ambient pressure no pressure vessels to worry about. (8) There is no water in the core so steam explosion (Chernobyl) or hydrogen explosion (Fukushima) are not possible. We really do not need Russian oil or their gas.
