  2. HMS Hood was also drastically under-armoured. She was bolt according to restrictive gross tonnage rules set up after WW1 to stop the battleship arms race. She was then used so much to advertise British military and naval prowess abroad there was never time to upgrade the armour before war broke out. Add the dangerous design faults and she never stood chance against Bismark. The killer shell was no doubt a lucky shot but Bismark's guns were highly accurate.
