  1. Looking at how 70 tons of tank start-stop-reverse makes me realise the gearbox (transmission) must take a hammering. It’s amazing they can handle the stress.

  2. Operating tanks is extremely expensive. Abrams fuel costs are a tiny part of that. The issue is physically keeping any tank fuelled up. Abrams just needs a few more Jerry cans.

  3. Challengers used by competent crews to keep the enemy within its own border is a great use of the resource. Challengers sat in garages are little more than scrap metal.

  4. There are parallels with the WW2 bombing campaigns over Germany. The purpose was to damage war materiel factories but more importantly destroy the Luftwaffe airforce and later the army. The navy was also being steadily attrited. Germany collapsed. Similar actions are happening in Ukraine. Russia is being worn down. Eventually the big tanks will roll in, push the Russians out. They will then stay active to keep Russia out.
