  1. Donbas has huge reserves of gas and oil which Putin saw as competition to be kept down. It will be needed by Europe when this war is over. Especially as the Russian lines will have been closed by then.

  2. We have allowed our politics to swing ever leftwards. Until recently this side was supportive of (and often supported by) Russian influence. They have ridiculed indigenous nuclear power yet been happy to buy Russian gas.

  5. Hitler exploded a nuclear device in late 1944 in Poland. It created a blue flash but failed to give a full explosion. Coincidentally, Oppenheimer (struggling with triggers) said he would not have a test device before 1946. Three months after Hitler capitulated the US had a working bomb using German infrared fuses.

  6. To be fair the drip feed of munitions has boiled Putin’s frog. He rattled sabres every time something new was announced but did nothing. Even the dam demolition (set up months ago) only happened when Ukraine started its counter attack.

  7. I’ve subscribed to Telegraph for some years. I would like to see more in depth coverage of Coof origins and why we didn’t go with the Swedish option but otherwise I’ve not been disappointed.
