  1. Unsprung weight is a big issue. Small cheap cars ride badly because they use cast iron suspension, brakes and hub carriers. All that weight bouncing about ruins the road handling. Lighter weight parts are more expensive but considerably improve the ride and handling. Drive shafts are well proven and not silly expensive so simply put the motors inside the transmission. You can also fit smaller brakes as regen braking does most of the work.
