The Moltex Static Salt design does away with almost every hazard from traditional nuclear power. Its sheer simplicity and intrinsic safety should dramatically reduce costs. It’s also scaleable by building more reactors on the same site. It is naturally load following and and cannot over heat. Excessive temperature stops the nuclear reaction long before it becomes dangerous. It could be disconnected from load at full power and nothing nasty would happen. It has boron shut-down rods but they are not needed as an emergency tool. There is no water or steam in the core so no pressure and considerably less corrosion than we get in PWR cores. We should be moving heaven and earth to build these things. Instead we have an out of control nuclear regulator that completely stalled progress. Moltex is now getting the job done in Canada.

The recent ice ages go back 2.5 million years. The 11,000 years since the last ice sheets retreated is comparatively a tiny blip. Within that, we had warmer periods. Roman Warm Period and Medieval Warm Period were both warmer than today. Dark Ages and Little Ice Age were colder. CO2 follows the warming trend. By 1750 it was at 180ppm. Plants begin to die at 150ppm. CO2 climbed with the warming but only really moved after 1950. That’s 200 years into the current warm period.

@polla2256 Nukes provide base load. If your city has just the one, what happens when it goes offline?

The UN climate committee is only allowed to consider CO2. That do not look at other variables.

@nickbrutanna9973 Fukushima has the same floor plan as any old coal fired power plant. Boiler at back turbines and feed pumps, next cooling water pumps at front along with any emergency systems. A plant on the coast or river needs to be this way. However a nuke with its emergency cooling and generator plant adjacent to the sea wall is just idiotic. All it needed was a big wave and the whole thing is toast. The emergency stuff could have easily been put on higher ground. But they stuck with an inappropriate tradition.

E=MC2 shows that light speed speed causes infinite mass and time stops at the speed of light. Black hole gravity pulls harder than the speed of light. So does anything caught in the accretion disc ever cross the event horizon. Does the black hole really absorb any matter at all?

Ice shelves FLOAT on the sea. When they melt there is no change n sea level. What happened 1000 years ago (Medieval Warm Period) and 2000 years ago (Roman Warm Period) when the climate was considerably warmer than today? We are here and sea level is much the same so presumably there was no disaster.

No citations needed. The information comes from Greenland and Antarctic ice core data supported by tree ring data. Air bubbles in the ice show the actual CO2 content. Tree pollen shows the rate of growth. Tree rings show the temperature and growth rates per year.

The lecture says that CO2 has the same absorption spectrum as the rest of the atmosphere so why is CO2 seen as a warming gas when all the other gases are doing the same thing?
