Ukraine is most likely concentrating on the oil and gas port facilities with additional hits on refineries. Russian defences are scattered thinly, because they don’t know where the next one will land.

Like every ex Soviet nation, pre war Ukraine struggled with corruption. The Russian money captured by western countries must be used for Ukraine reconstruction but it must be controlled. Simply paying it to US multinationals like Halliburton is not the answer but simply handing it all over will be even worse.

Oil and gas wells always contain water. Flow has to be continuous or Russian winter will freeze and shatter the pipes. That broken gas facility will require gas wells to be shut down. Good luck everyone reopening them.

I would like to say the EU keeps Orban close so they can manage what he does. In reality the EU is a poorly organised alliance with none of the tools any normal group has to remove errant members.
4
China will take Eastern Siberia (Manchuria) including Vladivostok. Japan is building up its navy and will grab the islands given to Stalin after WW2.
4
This hit looks like a failed attempt by a crime boss to take out a failed henchman. But it did the job anyway. Said henchman will now toe the line and probably withdraw from any involvement in the Kremlin.
4
Putin looks more like Eeyore the depressed misery than Piglet who was the eternal optimist.

Do these drone boats have engines and electric power? That would explain how they could get so close without beating heard.

Ukraine is big enough to nearly double EU grain production. EU agriculture is robust enough to cope with a price hit of that magnitude. The solution (that EU refuses to accept) is to protect Ukraine grain ports and storage facilities. Not to mention the bulk ships on the Black Sea.

@Wann-zo7rn2qn4i The Rostov crowd at least looked real. All Putin can manage is the same few renta bods to wave flags and try to not look bored. I'm amazed FSB has put up with him for so long.
3
The work done by Alan Turing and the British Ultra code breakers was classified so hard because the Soviets never knew the Enigma code was broken They used versions of the machines until 1990.
3
Rotterdam was hit by massed attacks of Nazi missiles. London had mostly V1 cruise missiles that were mostly shot down with relatively few V2 rockets which had no defence whatsoever. None of these were accurately targeted.
3
It’s not just the pipes. Much of Russian oil and gas is under the Tundra permafrost. It comes out of the wells hot. If the flow stops the ground around the well freezes and crushes the pipe. That well can no longer be used.
3
I am not anti vax but I will not be accepting another MRNA jab. Too many negatives for me.
3
The original people of Konigsberg were removed and sent to the salt mines long ago. Kaliningrad is entirely Russian and should never be allowed into EU.
3
Many of these new cryptos were hyped by “influencers” (who of course) already held a significant number) their subscribers buy their share. Laddie influence then sells a chunk of his coins.
3
The most likely cause is usually the least complicated option. These multi-bomblet missiles are the easiest way to get the job done.
3
@nomercyinc6783 Putin does not have control of FSB. It all depends on who FSB think is a better figurehead to replace Putin. Prigozhin is a risk but he's all they have.
3
The steel arch span shown in Jake’s image of the bridge would be a good target. One or two precision misfiles could take out fundamental structures. It’s then “only” a short span to replace after the war.
3
@obscureus2561 Russian army does not have sergeants. It’s no wonder they can’t fight a war against anyone who can fight back.
3
The world failed when they did nothing about the dam destruction. It was obviously deliberately blown up but nobody said anything. Even BBC pretended it was accidental n
3
An unpopular foreign war ended the Soviets by exposing their corruption and mismanagement. The war in 1917 ended the Tsars for the same reasons. Putin is simply continuing the tradition.
3
However. the red value to date is based on profits etc in a stable and rising market. The future with high inflation AND high interest rates, will be anything but either of these. Future stock values will be lower. Add effect of day trading speculators cashing in their losses and prices can only fall.
3
Russia is an empire, every bit as brutal as C15th Spanish Empire. Spain grew up. Russia prefers to be a mafia state that brutalises and makes slaves of the people it conquers.
3
That Russian train looks just like the same stupid trains built by Hitler’s Germany. The only difference is Russia ran out of paint for the full swastika.
3
UK is already short of building trades. The situation will get worse when people (quite rightly) move to Ukraine to help with rebuilding.

She (so) in China has operated along the same lines. They are basically no different to 1930s Germany. No one man can control every detail of even their own household never mind a whole country. Sooner or later it will collapse. Russia has a huge demographic problem too many old people too few working age too much disease and no useful education. They are now killing their young men at a prodigious rate. They already cannot control wildfires in Siberia so what happens when China walks into the Vladivostok area?
2
Ukraine pilots can probably learn US aircraft very quickly but the maintenance crews are another issue. They are no less capable but they do not work with 21st Century equipment.
2
Russia has to keep pumping. But when their infrastructure inevitably breaks down, the wells will have to be shut down. They can’t sell oil they can’t move to the customers. As Jake says. Closed wells in Siberia won’t reopen without being redrilled. Russia does not have the expertise so then what?
2
It takes 18 years to make an 18 year-old. Get them at 10 and halve the development time.
2
Peter Zeihan explained how China’s one child policy created a serious demographic problem. Their population is ageing and within 10 years they won’t be able to run the country. Russia wanted Ukraine because their demographics are not far behind.
2
Russia might have failed militarily but their currency has bounced back and The West sanctions are doing more harm to Europe (especially) and USA because they can’t or won’t do the job properly.
2
Russia does not need Musk to put their stuff into space.
2
Jake mentions the Caspian Sea and River Volga. Ukraine sovereignty was once bordered by the Volga but was dismembered by the Soviets.
2
@PedroFerreira-ze5yp . Trump so far is not supporting Putin and Muzk is

This week, Russia has been shelling its own towns in Belgorod. During WW2, Stalin flattened every town as they pushed back the Germans. It was a scorched earth that killed millions of totally defenceless Russians. The Germans were brutal, but Stalin was orders of magnitude worse. In 1944, General George Patton said “we are fighting the wrong enemy” and was castigated for saying it. . Today’s Russia shows how totally correct he was.
2
Daylight savings time works in some northern latitudes. England for example would benefit from double summer time and summer time. Anyone further north or south just has too many negatives to be worth the bother.
2
Putin always lies. Everything he says is the opposite of reality. Ditto the Russian media. Putin also does a great job of mirroring anyone he meets so they believe he’s a good guy. Certainly worked on Germany and France.
2
Biden has been sick for months. He should have stepped aside in early 2024 but he’s too much of a narcissist to think about such things.
2
The only fundamental difference between Stalin’s Soviets and Hitler’s Nazis was the Nazis had better uniforms. Stalin’s incompetence made Russia a target for Hitler’s take-over.
2
@dgwachtel Wars are won by military power. Wars are lost by economics.
2
Anders is a serving military officer. There will be much he cannot say. Disentangling sensitive information from public domain is a full time job by itself.
2
The coming inflation will quickly look like a dead cat bounce. The real problem is long term DEFLATION. we are heading where Japan has been for the last >30 years. The world economy is heading for short term inflation followed by long term collapse.
2
The parallels with Hitler, Stalin and the Kim family is stunning.
2
Shut down the cell towers and mobiles stop working. Simples.
2
None Russian athletes should boycott the Paris Olympic Games. That’s tough when you’ve worked hard for the privilege but morally you should walk away.
2
Russian tanks and vehicles advancing on Kyiv in February 22 endlessly broke down and ran out of fuel. Their tyres were ancient and fell apart. The whole escapade looked unplanned and extremely badly prepared. Why? Corruption. They had nothing to prepare with so went with what they had.
2
I hope you are right about SDLB numbers.
2
The trumpian "patriot" GOP voters will avoid electing more of the same corporate schills taking back-handers. It's hard to know how that will effect the economy but for sure it's unlikely to follow past patterns.
2
Thank You for stating what should be obvious. When your country is invaded by monsters you either fight back or you literally fall into hell and slavery.
