  1. It’s not just the pipes. Much of Russian oil and gas is under the Tundra permafrost. It comes out of the wells hot. If the flow stops the ground around the well freezes and crushes the pipe. That well can no longer be used.

  2. Russia has to keep pumping. But when their infrastructure inevitably breaks down, the wells will have to be shut down. They can’t sell oil they can’t move to the customers. As Jake says. Closed wells in Siberia won’t reopen without being redrilled. Russia does not have the expertise so then what?
