I did my first oil change around 45 years ago and was shocked by the rod knock until the oil came through. Ever since I’ve always pre-filled the filter. Today I want to fit a 2 micron bypass filter that flows in parallel with the standard filter. The snag is finding the necessary components.

I use 10w40 semi synth. It’s a bit thinner when cold so flows better on cold start. It’s not too thick when at running temperature, so everything gets the lube it needs.

My engine has a top mounted filter that’s not possible to fill. I stripped it down at 130,000 miles and found all bearings as good as new.

Does anyone make an electric pre priming oil pump to build oil pressure before engine start.

My car is 15 years old but the 1.3 16 valve diesel is still in production. I use 10w40 semi synthetic diesel spec oil and have no measurable wear on bearings. The bores are approaching the upper tolerance but oil consumption is minimal. The work was done recently because the cam chain failed. A known issue with these built before 2011. The one thing missing is the possibility to fit a sub 2 micron bypass filter. These remove the harmful soot that diesel oils always collect.
