J.R.C none Why would anyone choose to flee to another planet with next to no water next to no atmosphere and high radiation levels. A post apocalypse Earth would be a comparative paradise.

Mars will be interesting to visit but it’s far from ever being a lifeboat for humanity. Mars has next to no atmosphere so is far more vulnerable to asteroid impacts than Earth. The very light atmosphere will not stop ionising radiation e.g. cosmic rays from space. Mars has perchlorate soils toxic to life. Mars has abrasive dust everywhere that will wreck machinery and the health of anyone living there. Effects similar to asbestos.

ben lawton Mars colonies will be underground and Mars has the same risk of asteroid impact as does Earth.

Brian Giovingo Mars is even more vulnerable to asteroid impact than Earth. Artificial habitats are far easier to sabotage than a whole plant. Mars is interesting but it’s no life boat.

Prism Games Any colony on Mars would have to be built underground what’s the point if you can do it on Earth?

Bear Lemley You suggest we should travel through the solar system. Fair enough but to achieve what exactly?

Ladder chassis frames (as everyone else uses) are not safe. The normal truck frame ploughs on while the body collapses into the occupants. The Tesla unibody won’t have that problem.

Here’s the Tesla “prototype” from late 1980s. More glass less body panel but it’s a minimalist structural space frame. Tesla truck with 6 wheels would be cool. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=hustler+highlander&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-gb&client=safari#imgrc=trtgwbqrM8ZeFM:

The stainless sheets can be curved but compound curves are very difficult. I would fold a return at the back end. That corner shut line will be a long term problem any tiny misalignment will look awful.

Starlink will not work directly with a phone. That will still need a modem and WiFi or masts and 4G for the local loop.
