  2. Boris could also do as John Major did and call a no confidence vote against his own government. If the hard Remainers vote him down he will win the election without them simply because he will have shown the guts to confront them. If he wins they'll (arguably) have to put up and shut up. But as Normal Tebbit says in his Telegraph article today - South West Hertfordshire Conservative Association passed a motion of no confidence in their MP, Justice Secretary David Gauke. The motion fell by 123 votes to 61 - less than 200 votes were cast. What chance do we have, when the grass roots have given up to that extent?
