  1. The Wright Brothers realised that propeller pitch has to reduce down the blade length. Their propellers were surprisingly efficient. Not bad for a first to do it business.

  2. Manatees in Florida suffer horrific injuries from boat propellers. Simply adding an external ring would be a huge improvement. Making a more efficient propeller makes it a no brainier.
