  1. USSR was Russia plus its totally controlled empire. Eastern Europe was subjugated by Russia with anything of valid fed back to Russia. In many areas the ethnic people were removed and replaced by Russians. Today, they are doing the same in Ukraine. Just as they did in Georgia, Chechnya et al.

  2. Soviet weapons were never as good as western equipment. But it was cheap and sold like hot cakes to despotic countries.
