  1. As TIK says elsewhere, the Russian peasants on the grain steppes absolutely hated Stalin. But the idiot Nazis considered them subhuman and treated them accordingly. The people stuck with the devil they knew. Hitler and co screwed themselves over as no way could they defend their conquests.

  2. If Rommel had discovered oil in North Africa how would he have got it across the Mediterranean without the RN sinking it. Libya eventually found oil but also found huge reserves of underground water which messed up the seismic surveys.
