  1. Rail sleepers (ties) (and telegraph poles) were timber impregnated with coal tar. If the coal can’t be moved they can’t treat the timber so they can’t make sleepers and poles.

  2.  @Black-js5ke  TIK discusses elsewhere that Hitler was a racist socialist. He demonised the Jews so his new laws could give all assets to the state. The Nazis ran a command economy which led directly to Germany losing the war.

  3. Even today, Germany is strip-mining brown coal to burn in one power station. It’s a dirty poor quality fuel but they recently upgraded the power plant.
