  1. I argue that Britain should have kept out of WW1. The British had a powerful navy but a surprisingly weak army. How the government of the day thought Britain had anything to gain from propping up France is anyone’s guess.

  2. Britain DEVELOPED a strong army DURING WW1. Initially with volunteers but later with conscripts. Immediately prior to the war, the British had a puny army created to keep peace over its colonial interests. They had nothing that could beat Germany just a few miles from its war manufacturing areas (Rhur etc).
