  1. If China does hit a US base or capital ship, the US people will demand an overwhelming response. It would be Pearl Harbor II followed by Midway on steroids.

  2. Chinese computer chips are good enough for a smart fridge or a lightbulb. They cannot make anything useful for smartphones or computers. Taiwan is at least 7 hours sailing time from China. If the Chinese somehow manage to land an effective army on Taiwan, those chip plants will be destroyed and the expertise spirited away.
