  1. The diesel fuel standard for UK is EN590 which has a cetane value of 49. Shell Optimax diesel is 51 to 53. I assume Exxon has their equivalent. Higher cetane numbers means smoother combustion less knock, less smoke and less NOx. The USA allows a minimum cetane of 40 so they have a lot of room for improvement.
