  3.  @Bonypart  Maybe the crew knew the make/shift crates were not safe so had the tail ramp half lowered on takeoff. It’s not inconceivable that they accidentally on purpose dropped the melons.

  4. It’s highly likely that Western engineers knew the Yak-9 was a hoax. The DeHavilland Mosquito was fitted with a 57mm six pounder gun with Mohlins auto loader. It filled the bomb bay and while very accurate (and destructive to U-Boats), it was not a military success. There is no way such a mister could be fitted to a single engine jet aircraft.
