  1. Cars are ridiculously expensive so people rent them with a lease deal based on the ultimate resale value. When that resale value collapses, the car maker/bank takes the hit. When customers cancel the contract, the collapsed car value means car maker/bank takes the hit.

  2. Anyone buying a new engine powered car needs to check their brains. Get a Tesla it will at least hold its value. May well gain value.
