  1. MG42 with its incredible firing rate was a superb area denial weapon. But it needed significant logistics support to keep it fed. It also had to be tripod mounted to cope with the recoil. Bren gun was accurate and could be operated by two men. The slower firing rate made it usable with a bipod and didn’t need truckloads of ammo.

  2. The full name is “discarding sabot” Sabot = French for hoof. It literally kicks the narrow projectile down the barrel.

  3. Early Spitfires had one cannon on each side. When one jammed the working gun would throw the plane off target.
