Synchromesh slows the gear shift time. With revs matched a simple dog engagement is much faster shifting. It also allows clutchless up shifts.

Someone asked how such small parts can handle the power - extreme high revs is the answer. The pre hybrid F1s were making 800bhp at something like 18,000 revs. Bike gearboxes are just like this but for some reason, bikes run the gearbox slower than the engine. I have no idea why because fewer revs = more torque so the parts can be bigger.

Parallels shaft gearboxes always have the issue of the shafts trying to push apart. Epicyclic gears keep all the forces contained and share the loads between three or more planet gears. They are fast shifting and more efficient so who knows why F1 don’t use them.
